ELMIRA, NY (607NewsNow) – An Ithaca man will spend over a decade behind bars.
On April 14, Dominick Haley was sentenced to 12 years in prison on charges of felony assault, felony assault on a police officer, and misdemeanor petit larceny.
WENY-TV reports that Haley admitted to actions during a guilty plea last month that led to the critical injury of Chemung County Investigator Michael Theetge during a March 2024 retail theft investigation. The 25-year-old Haley attempted to elude Theetge after stealing items from Target in Big Flats. After a chase, the pair ended up on the hood of a car driven by Haley’s alleged accomplice, 25-year-old Fatiuna Massaline, also of Ithaca.
Massaline, who herself was convicted last month for her role, accelerated and threw both men from the car onto the ground. Theetge suffered a skull fracture and brain bleed that required months in the hospital and extensive rehabilitation. Haley was uninjured and arrested at the scene. Massaline escaped and was later arrested.
Massaline is scheduled to be sentenced on May 19.
