SYRACUSE, NY (607NewsNow) – An Ithaca man could face life behind bars.

On July 29, David Pastorello was arrested by the FBI and charged with enticement of a minor and distribution of child pornography. On Wednesday, he had his initial appearance in United States District Court.

The 44-year-old is accused of sending indecent images and inappropriate text messages to a 12-year-old and entering their apartment without permission. According to the Department of Justice, Pastorello repeatedly requested that the child have intercourse with him in the messages.

In May, Pastorello was arraigned on a charge of possession of a sexual performance by a child in Tompkins County. Earlier this month, he pleaded guilty in Cortland County to disseminating indecent material to a minor.

“Mr. Pastorello, a repeat offender with an alarming criminal history, is a dangerous predator who is now facing serious federal charges,” said FBI Special Agent in Charge Craig Tremaroli. “These charges would not have been possible without the incredible assistance and coordination provided by our partners from the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, the Ithaca Police Department, and the New York State Police.”

If convicted, Pastorello faces a mandatory minimum 15 years’ imprisonment and a maximum term of life.

Pastorello is being held by the United States Marshals Service pending future court proceedings.
