ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Ithaca has missed out on a $10 million state development grant.
Officials were hopeful that a targeted application would secure the grant this year, but Binghamton was announced as the winner on Thursday. Ithaca’s proposed projects focused on revamping the city’s West End.
In a statement to WHCU, Mayor Robert Cantelmo expressed graciousness.
“I want to congratulate Mayor Kraham, Director Glose, and the Binghamton team on winning this year’s DRI competition. While this was not Ithaca’s year, I am heartened to see a continued commitment to needed investment in the Southern Tier. Our team submitted a strong application and illustrated the potential and vibrancy of downtown Ithaca. I am committed to continuing these efforts to revise and resubmit and get Ithaca the investment it needs to promote an affordable, welcoming, and prosperous community.”
The application was prepared with assistance from an engineering, architecture, and municipal planning group.
WHCU’s Mathew Adams contributed to this report.
