ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) – Tompkins County’s lone remaining year-round shelter is closed earlier than expected.

Saint John’s Community Services in Ithaca shut down yesterday and will fully cease operations by the end of the day. It was originally slated to close in mid-November. According to the Ithaca Voice, Saint John’s informed officials on Monday of its early departure.

Meantime, during the Municipal Official Report at Wednesday’s Ithaca Common Council meeting, Legislator Veronica Pillar told alderpersons the opening date for the Code Blue cold-weather shelter in Ithaca has been pushed back to November 25.

Last week, the county announced it was near an agreement with local motels for shelter beds through the Temporary Housing Assistance program.
