ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) — Ithaca’s Common Council is considering overriding New York’s tax cap.

Last month, council members voted 10 to zero in favor of moving the measure to a vote. Those in favor believe it gives the city greater flexibility in crafting next year’s budget. Others expressed concern over the current cost of living in Ithaca, which is high.

The Ithaca Voice notes the city budget has seen double-digit increases since 2019. Ithaca’s budget year begins on January 1.

The Common Council meeting starts this evening at 6 p.m.
