ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Ithaca’s Common Council is considering a change to zoning.
City lawmakers are thinking about making an amendment “to remove bed-and-breakfast home and accessory apartment uses, and update to the definition, fee, and renewal process for bed and breakfast inns,” according to a memo sent to the Common Council.
The city’s Planning and Development staff “recommend removing two uses from the Zoning Ordinance: bed-and-breakfast home and accessory apartment. The bed-and-breakfast home and the accessory apartment uses are redundant with the City’s newly-added short-term rental and accessory dwelling unit uses and the Zoning Ordinance currently provides conflicting approval paths. Planning & Development staff also recommend updating the definition of bed-and-breakfast inn to ensure that the use is clearly differentiated from a short-term rental use.”
Ithaca’s new rule for short-term rentals takes effect on Sunday, June 1. A public hearing on the proposed amendment change is being held at the Common Council meeting on June 11.
