ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Ithaca College could see a goose as its mascot.

President La Jerne Terry Cornish said she’s on board with the idea.

“I think if the students take hold of it, I’m going to support them fully,” she said in an interview with The Ithacan.

Cornish said the college would keep its nickname as the Bombers.

“I would love to have a goose be the mascot, and the goose’s name is Bomber, and we put a bomber jacket on the goose,” she said.

Cornish added she imagines selling bomber jackets in the school store, but some people on campus don’t support the idea.

“I have some friends in Marketing and Communications who look and me and they’re like, ‘No La Jerne, we don’t want that as our mascot,'” she said.

Cornish said other people are lukewarm with geese on campus.

“They aren’t happy about the droppings,” she said.

Elsewhere in Ithaca, the unofficial mascot at Cornell University is a bear named Touchdown.
