ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) — Ithaca is getting money from Albany.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced Tuesday a total of $64.1 million for 43 projects through the Restore New York Communities Initiative.

Ithaca was awarded $1.89 million “to support the demolition and reconstruction of three contiguous properties, and to develop a residential apartment building. The project will demolish two vacant commercial buildings totaling 7,900 square feet and reconstruct a 24-unit residential apartment building. The reconstructed four-story building will be approximately 29,000 square feet and contain three stories of housing over ground level enclosed parking.”

Mayor Robert Cantelmo sent the following statement to WHCU and Cortaca Today:

“The Restore NY Communities Initiative helps give municipalities the resources we need to revitalize our communities. This new $1.89 million will achieve that goal by replacing vacant commercial space with critically needed housing. I am grateful to the leadership of Governor Hochul, Commissioner Knight, and the hardworking staff at Empire State Development for their partnership and stewardship of this transformative program.”
