ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — An Ithaca apartment fire is under investigation.

Assistant Ithaca Fire Chief Jim Wheal says the three-alarm fire was called in shortly after five o’clock last evening on Chestnut Street. Firefighters could see a large column of smoke. Additional crews were dispatched to help extinguish heavy flames and hotspots.

Wheal says the apartment was completely damaged but neighboring units are habitable. The cause of Thursday’s fire is currently unknown.
