Ithaca apartment building sees crime

ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — A new Ithaca housing development is dealing with crime.

Asteri opened over the summer on the Commons. The Cornell Daily Sun reports some residents feel unsafe.

People are reportedly punching holes in walls and trying to steal copper from pipes. In November, one man allegedly threatened someone with an axe.

Ithaca Police Chief Tom Kelly told the Sun that Asteri has increased calls for service.

Many of the residents previously lived in the encampment known as the Jungle.
