ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) — The City of Ithaca is creating a new position.

On Wednesday, the Common Council agreed to add a community permit specialist to city staff. Alderperson Patrick Kuehl voted in favor of the job.

“I think that we need to be hiring more positions that are doing really on-the-ground work, and getting more permits out there, and fixing the roads,” he said. “I feel like this position is doing that.”

Alderperson Margaret Fabrizio opposed the position, citing budget concerns.

“We are living a little high on the hog, and we got to really think about how we’re spending money,” she said.

The final vote from the Common Council was nine ayes, two nays.
