ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – The Ithaca Police Department (IPD) is stepping up its presence on The Commons.

IPD says they’re increasing enforcement of the posted ordinances “at the request of the community.” Smoking, as well as open alcohol containers, are prohibited.

All pedestrians must walk. Riding bikes, scooters, roller skates, and skateboards is not permitted. Additionally, dogs must be leashed, and any waste must be cleaned up.  All organized soliciting, vending, tabling, amplified music, and vehicles require a city-issued permit.

Officers will be issuing court summons to violators “for the foreseeable future,” and will reevaluate the increased focus initiative further down the road.
