ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — There’s a leadership change in the Tompkins County Highway Department.

Jeff Smith, the former highway director, has retired. Smith became the director in 2012 and held the position for over a decade.

Tompkins County Legislative Chair Dan Klein said the department is moving forward with Nick Ensign as the interim director. Klein said Ensign has been with the department for “quite a while.”

According to Klein, the county is hoping to hire a permanent direction within the next two months.
