ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – Another year has been added to Dr. Luvelle Brown’s contract.

On September 9, the Ithaca City School District (ICSD) Board of Education voted to extend the Superintendent’s contract through 2029.

In a lengthy public comment period, some community members expressed a desire to have input on the decision. Some members of the board thought the idea seemed to be made in haste, pointing to the fact that Brown is under contract for another three years.

Board Vice President Garrick Blalock explained why he felt the district needed to act.

Board President Dr. Sean Eversley Bradwell said he’s “sensitive” to the fact that the Ithaca Teachers Association still doesn’t have a new contract.

“My expectation, no matter what the outcome of this vote is, is that we will find a way to pay our teachers what they deserve,” said Bradwell. “I pledge my support to make sure that we resolve this contract quickly and in a fashion that is hopefully agreeable to all.”

Dr. Brown’s extension passed by a 5 to 4 vote.
