ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) – Tompkins County has announced the winners of its second annual voting sticker competition.

Ahava Sapp and Ruby LeCroy’s artwork will be featured in this November’s election. Sapp, a second grader at Belle Sherman won the new “future voter” design, while Boynton Middle School 6th grader Lecroy won the “I Voted” contest. Both students will receive copies of their designs and a proclamation from the Tompkins County Legislature later this year. Over 1700 people cast votes this year.

“Congratulations to both students for their amazing artwork and to everyone who participated in the contests this year,” said Republican Board of Elections Commissioner Alanna Congdon. “The Board of Elections is so proud to be able to encourage civic engagement in this way. We saw over 100 submissions including art from nearly every school in the county and from students at every grade level.”

The contest was brought back after a robust response to the first year of the competition.

“This has been a great way to get the word out about elections,” said Democratic Board of Elections Commissioner Steve DeWitt. “This has been a great way to get the word out about elections. Voter turnout is important for every community. We’re lucky that in Tompkins County we will be giving out two beautiful stickers this year to those who show up to polls.”

Last year, New Roots Charter School student Dakota Tseng took home the honor.
