AURORA, NY (CortacaToday) – Aquatic herbicide treatments have begun in Cayuga Lake.

The DEC and Army Corps of Engineers will apply fluridone and chelated copper to combat the invasive Hydrilla plant. It’s happening near Wells College this week, and signs will be posted at public access points where treatments occur.

Cayuga County health officials say there are no restrictions for drinking, fishing, swimming, boating, bathing, or washing clothes. However, treated water should not be used for greenhouse and nursery plants, newly seeded lawns, and some vegetable plants.

The Cayuga County Health Department will monitor public drinking water and public beaches during the treatment period. The results will be posted on the health department’s website as they become available.
