CORTLAND, NY (CortacaToday) — Cortland’s police force has a new leader.

The Common Council made the appointment of Chief David Guerrera official last night, and he was sworn in by Mayor Scott Steve. Guerrera named Lieutenant Cheyenne Cute as deputy chief and Sergeant Ryan Riley as lieutenant.

After naming Guerrera, who’s served as acting police chief since Paul Sandy’s retirement over the summer, Mayor Steve called Guerrera the “right leader at the right time for our community.”

Guerrera joined the Cortland Police Department in 1993.
