CORTLAND, NY (CortacaToday) – Police have caught up with two men who they say stole motorcycles earlier this year in Cortland.

An investigation into the theft of two Kawasaki motorcycles and the attempted theft of a third began on May 3. According to Cortland Police, the suspects were caught on video around 2:20 a.m. taking the bikes from a place on Jefferson Road in the city. After a lengthy investigation, both bikes were discovered in a Groton barn and Jacob and Joshua Conklin were identified as suspects. Zoey Henry, 25, was also identified as a suspect. All three were arrested.

Joshua Conklin, 35, allegedly fled from his appearance in Cortland City Court on July 3. He was arrested on July 10 after being spotted coming out of The Dryden Hotel and leading Tompkins County Sheriff’s deputies on a chase. Jacob Conklin, 27, was taken into custody after a traffic stop in Tioga County because of a warrant for probation violation.

  • misdemeanor DWI-drugs (Class A)

Jacob Conklin Charges:

  • 2 counts felony criminal possession of stolen property (3rd degree)
  • felony criminal possession of stolen property (4th degree)
  • felony grand larceny (4th degree)
  • felony criminal mischief (3rd degree)
  • 2 counts felony criminal mischief (2nd degree)
  • misdemeanor conspiracy (class A)
  • misdemeanor possession of burglar’s tools (class A)

Zoey Henry is charged with criminal possession of stolen property for allegedly driving the vehicle on the night the motorcycles were stolen.

Cassandra Kelly, 37, and Kaylei Searles, 26, are charged with misdemeanor falsely reporting an incident. Cortland PD says Kelly reported her van as stolen and later discovered she knew who had it and that it was being used in the crime. Searles allegedly provided a false written statement related to the investigation, but no other details were shared.

Joshua and Jacob Conklin await future court dates from Tompkins County Jail. The other defendants will appear in court at a later date.
