LANSING, NY (607NewsNow) – Four family pets are safe after a fire in Lansing.

On April 10, firefighters responded to a 2-story residential home for a reported structure fire. Arriving units began defensive operations before they could enter due to heavy fire conditions but were able to rescue two dogs and two cats.

The Lansing Fire Department, a 100% volunteer department, deployed two engines, two tankers, heavy rescue, a ladder truck, a duty chief, and two additional support vehicles with nearly 20 firefighters.

Lansing Fire was assisted by departments from Groton, McLean, Freeville, Locke, Cayuga Heights, and Ithaca Tompkins International Airport, as well as the State Police, Tompkins County EMO, and the Town of Lansing Highway Department.
