BINGHAMTON, NY (607NewsNow) – One person is recovering after a river rescue in Broome County.
On June 10, the Binghamton Fire Department responded to the Susquehanna around noon for multiple reports of someone in the water below Rockbottom Dam.
When firefighters arrived, they attempted a rope rescue, but Binghamton Fire says the man was unable or unwilling to grab the rope.
Soon after, a rescue boat launched from Confluence Park, and the man was safely brought to shore about 100 yards downstream. According to the Binghamton Fire Department, it’s unknown why the man was in the water.
It follows a string of recent river rescues in the region, including two on the Susquehanna last Sunday for boat issues, and one in late May for a dog that was swept away by a strong current. A pair of kayakers were also recently saved in the nearby Tioughnioga River.
