SENECA FALLS, NY (607NewsNow) – All aboard for an opportunity to see the Finger Lakes like you may never have before.
A group of community partners has collaborated to bring the Finger Lakes Rail Experience to the area. According to organizers, the Finger Lakes Railway approached FMW Solutions earlier this year about running a potential passenger experience to boost local tourism, as FLR wanted to focus on freight work. The idea quickly came together.
The FLX Experience operates a fleet of five restored 1940s-era passenger cars from the United Railroad Historical Society. They include Premium Class, Lounge Class, First Class, and Deluxe Coach. All cars have bathrooms and air conditioning. You can read about each of them here.

Hickory Creek, the Premium Class which ran from New York City to Chicago, is said to be the most famous passenger train of the 20th Century. It features a Lookout Lounge in the front with a panoramic view. Hickory Creek’s confirmed past guests include Frank Sinatra, other Hollywood actors, and prominent politicians.
You can set out from Seneca Falls, Geneva, or Canandaigua for unique views along parts of Cayuga, Seneca, and Canandaigua Lakes. The group offers several different tours, including the Sunset Club Train, the Family Train, the Wine Train, and the Mimosa Express.
Once on board, your ticket is punched, and you are served in your respective car by a small staff dressed in traditional garb. Depending on what tour you choose, there is additional volunteer staff comprised of representatives from wineries on the Seneca Lake Wine Trail, local food vendors, and local non-profits.
FLX Experience officials say more local businesses have reached out to get involved since the tours began operating on July 4.
The train rides will continue on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through the end of August. Offerings could expand in the future, including seasonal Pumpkin and Christmas tours. A full schedule and ticket booking are available here.
