ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) — Drought conditions remain a concern in the Southern Tier.

According to the US Drought Monitor, Tompkins and Cortland counties are still listed as ‘abnormally dry.’ A lack of significant rain combined with bursts of wind led to temporary bans on outdoor burning across the state after recent fires in Lansing and in Tioga County.

A large wildfire in Orange County resulted in the 72-hour deployment of firefighters from Tompkins and Tioga counties, who arrived yesterday.
