CORTLANDVILLE, NY (607NewsNow) — Cortlandville will not see a new golf driving range on Starr Road.
Plans for the project came to a halt at the town’s Zoning Board of Appeals meeting on May 27. In an email, Cortlandville Planning & Zoning Officer Bruce Weber said the board found that the applicant “did not meet the criteria for a use variance.” Specifically, the board determined the applicant did not demonstrate that the requested use variance would not alter the essential character of the neighborhood.
The applicant, Andrew Nobles of the group Glory Golf, said more than a dozen critics of the project attended the meeting.
“What many didn’t realize is that our plan was actually intended to preserve the natural forest and protect the land from full-scale development,” he said in an email. “We had proposed a seasonal, low-impact driving range with no permanent structures, minimal disturbance, and full cleanup of the site, including debris left from past dumping.”
The site currently has overgrown grass and a deteriorating house.
Cortland County contains several golf courses, including Walden Oaks Country Club, Elm Tree Golf Course, and Willowbrook Golf Club.
