ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Ithaca is trying something new about biking.

City officials are working with the Downtown Ithaca Alliance on creative ways of reducing possible conflicts between people walking and people riding bikes or scooters on Home Dairy Alley.

According to a news release posted at the City of Ithaca’s website, “Our goal is to encourage riders to dismount while on the Commons, making the space safer and more comfortable for everyone. The planters (and possibly other infrastructure ideas) are being placed in various locations to evaluate how they affect bike maneuverability while still preserving accessibility and ease of movement for pedestrians as well as maneuverability of cleaning and snow clearing equipment.”

Three different configurations of planters and signage are being tested, which began yesterday. Feedback is welcome throughout the six-week testing period here.
