ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — John Dennis is supporting Deborah Dawson for re-election.
In a statement to WHCU, Dennis said he’d rather defer to Dawson’s experience. “Legislator Dawson has ably represented District 10 for more than seven years, and her decision to seek a third four-year term—while late in coming—is a testament to her dedication to public service. She brings to the Legislature both a deep commitment to progressive values and a strong command of county finances.”
Earlier this year, Dawson announced her intentions to leave her seat after two terms. But several weeks ago, Dawson told WHCU she was launching a write-in campaign in District 7 out of concerns she has about the federal government and some new leadership roles in the county.
“Her leadership will be particularly important as Tompkins County confronts a difficult year ahead, marked by budget shortfalls, a hostile administration in Washington, and significant turnover within both the Legislature and several county departments,” Dennis added.
He also cited health issues his wife is experiencing as another reason for dropping out of the race. He’s asking supporters to vote for Dawson “on or before November 4th.”
“I extend my sincere gratitude to the many individuals who generously supported my campaign with their time, donations or both,” Dennis said.
