DANBY, NY (607NewsNow) — Drivers with electric vehicles in Danby soon won’t have to go too far to charge their automobiles.
State Senator Lea Webb says $11,400 in state funding is covering the cost of two charging ports for electric vehicles, which will be installed at the town hall. It’s part of New York’s Municipal Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure grant program.
“New York is committed to making the transition to clean transportation more accessible to our rural communities. I commend the municipal leaders in Danby for making it easier for their neighbors to charge their electric vehicles and do their part to address the climate crisis,” Webb said.
“Because rural areas are “charging deserts” due to limited vehicle traffic, supporting the transition to electric vehicles is challenging,” Danby Town Supervisor Joel Gagnon said. “This grant provides the critical funding to make Danby’s installation financially feasible. The charging ports, to be installed at the town hall, will serve not only the town’s facility but also nearby parks and businesses. We are pleased to be able to encourage the transition from fossil fueled to electric vehicles, an important part of reducing carbon emissions.”
