ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – A vacant seat on the Tompkins County Legislature has been filled.
On July 3, Dan Nolan was sworn in to represent District 3, which has been without a lawmaker since Susan Currie resigned in March to lead the Tompkins County Public Library as interim director.
It was Currie’s second stint as interim director and third overall, having served as director from 2009 to 2017 and as interim director in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nolan was appointed to fill the position and appeared on a special election ballot during the June primary.
“The Tompkins County Legislature welcomes Dan Nolan as he joins our ranks,” said Legislative Chair Dan Klein. “There are many big issues we are working on, and Dan will have his work cut out for him to get up to speed on them all.”
In addition to considering legislation, Nolan will immediately step into the advisory committee assignments that Currie held. They include the Facilities and Infrastructure Committee, the Government Operations Committee, the Health and Human Services Committee, and the Downtown Special Facilities Committee. He will serve the remainder of Currie’s term, which concludes at the end of the year.
“I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity to once again serve the people of Tompkins County and to represent my friends and neighbors in Belle Sherman and South Hill,” said Nolan. “Though my time on the Legislature will be limited, I look forward to making the most of it and working with my colleagues to take on the pressing issues that continue to face our county.”
Nolan will not seek another term in this year’s General Election. Iris Packman, who secured a win over Ithaca Alderperson Pierre Saint-Perez in the June primary, will be the Democrat on the ballot for District 3 in November.
