CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) – Cortland County District Attorney Patrick Perfetti has announced a conviction in a child sex abuse case.
On January 14, 32-year-old Crystal Bruzee, also known as Kevin Bruzee, was found guilty of felony predatory sexual assault against a child, felony criminal sexual act, felony sexual abuse, and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.
“This case, that started in March of 2023, saw unprecedented delays,” stated Perfetti. “The success [of] this conviction demonstrates the value of the Child Advocacy Center and the coordination of efforts of the Department of Social Services, law enforcement, and the D.A.’s office through the multi-disciplinary team.
According to D.A.’s office, Bruzee engaged in sexual contact with the victim, who was less than 11 at the time, in June 2021.
“The victim in this case has been relocated among four foster-care placements and moved through 14 different residences,” stated Chief Assistant DA Jessica Weyant, who led the prosecution. “Hopefully, with this verdict, the victim will be able to find closure and some measure of peace.”
The most serious charge of predatory sexual assault against a child carries a minimum sentence of 10 years to life in prison. Bruzee is scheduled to be sentenced on March 25, 2025.
