GENOA, NY (CortacaToday) – No injuries reported after crews respond to a difficult scene in Genoa.

On Tuesday, October 22, 2024, firefighters were called around 4:30 p.m. to a structure fire near Goose Street and State Route 90. When they arrived, they found a fully engulfed barn about 1500 feet off the road. Limited access through a narrow passage and weight concerns about a bridge forced responders to stretch the hose and walk to the blaze.

The Genoa Volunteer Fire Department was assisted by mutual aid partners from the King Ferry Fire Department, Locke Fire & Rescue, Moravia Fire Department, Scipio Fire Department, Southern Cayuga Instant Aid, and the Cayuga County Office of Emergency Services.

The barn was a total loss. Genoa FD was back in service in about 3 hours.
