VIRGIL, NY (607NewsNow) – All clear after a public health scare in Cortland County.
On December 15, the Virgil Fire Department was called to a possible gas leak around 9:45 p.m. on South Cortland Virgil Road.
A resident near a substation reported a sulfur smell in the area. When firefighters arrived, they could smell a faint odor. Crews went to work conducting air monitoring, thermal imaging, and visual surveillance, but found no elevated levels of gas. The Cortland Fire Department Hazmat Team provided technical assistance.
The gas company was contacted, and the scene was turned over to them shortly after 11 p.m. Representatives say it may have been a problem with the odorant-inducing system and confirm there was no leak.
