MARATHON, NY (607NewsNow) – Two people from Massachusetts face criminal charges after a crash in Cortland County.

On April 21, deputies responded to McGraw Marathon Road in the Town of Marathon around 8:15 a.m. for a report that a vehicle had left the roadway and struck a tree.

According to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office, 46-year-old Rae Wilder, of South Hadley, was driving under the influence of drugs. Both Wilder and her passenger, 54-year-old Joseph Furtado Jr. of Greenfield, were injured. The pair was arrested after deputies allegedly found an undisclosed amount of drugs in the vehicle.

Each is charged with two felony counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor criminal possession of a controlled substance, and misdemeanor criminal possession of drug paraphernalia.

Wilder is additionally charged with a misdemeanor of driving while impaired by drugs, and traffic infractions.

Wilder and Furtado are scheduled to return to Marathon Town Court on May 8.
