CORTLANDVILLE, NY (607NewsNow) — An electric vehicle caught fire, and the Cortlandville Fire Department says batteries are not to blame. 

Firefighters saw flames and smoke coming from the back of the vehicle. It happened shortly after 6:35 p.m. Tuesday evening on Route 81. “Firefighters utilized thermal imaging cameras to check the batteries to ensure no fire had reached the packs.”

Water was used to extinguish the fire within 45 minutes, and the southbound side of Route 81 is fully open now to traffic. No cause for the fire has been identified.
