CORTLAND, NY (CortacaToday) — Cortland’s police chief is retiring.

Mayor Scott Steve says Paul Sandy will leave his position at the Cortland Police Department at the end of July. Steve says he’s thankful for Sandy’s leadership during his time in office. Chief Sandy has worked in the Crown City for 37 years, starting in 1985 as a patrol officer.

“I am incredibly thankful for his leadership in one of our City’s most important departments as well as always being a trusted and faithful confidant to me,” Mayor Steve wrote on Facebook.

Sandy was appointed police chief in 2021. Efforts to find a new police chief will soon begin.
