CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) – Cortland is getting money through the NY SWIMS initiative.

On December 29, Governor Kathy Hochul announced that the Crown City will receive a $3.8 million award for renovations at Yaman Park.

The renovations will include an ADA-accessible bathhouse, shoreline restoration, improved beach access, and shade structures. The SWIMS initiative aims to provide competitive matching grants to help communities build and improve swimming facilities.

“NY SWIMS has already shown how transformative safe swimming facilities can be for families and neighborhoods,” said Hochul. “This next round of awards continues that progress by giving more communities the resources they need to build and improve the pools and aquatic spaces that support health, safety, and year-round recreation. Through Unplug and Play, we’re creating opportunities for New Yorkers to enjoy the outdoors, stay active, and come together.”

The funding was part of $67 million in capital grants headed to 21 projects across the state.
