CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) – Two people have been charged in connection to a string of burglaries and thefts in Cortland.
On December 23, Cortland Police responded to three suspected break-ins near Monroe Heights and Pleasant Street. Cortland PD has been investigating multiple burglaries and vehicle larcenies since November.
Investigators tracked the suspects through snow and parking lots to the Church Street Econo Lodge. Darrin Hayes, 34, and Jamie Hartwick, 26, were found in a room scheduled for repair. Hayes fled on foot and was eventually taken into custody on Main Street. Hayes, accused of at least ten additional incidents within the city, is charged with 13 felonies and 11 misdemeanors. He’s being held in Cortland County Jail without bail.
Hartwick, who initially provided a false identity at the time of arrest, is charged with one felony and two misdemeanors. She was released to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office on an unrelated arrest warrant.
Both are due in Court on January 16, 2025.
Cortland PD says there are several other crimes still under investigation and more charges could be coming.
