CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) — A Cortland lawmaker is charged with Driving While Intoxicated after an accident near the I-81 entrance ramp.
Police say Alderperson Wayne Schutt rear-ended another vehicle Friday night on Clinton Avenue Extension. Schutt, who’s 50, was treated for head pain. Officers determined he was drunk. Both vehicles were significantly damaged.
With officers already present, Cortland Police say 50-year-old Jennifer McCracken drove to the scene while drunk and was also charged. Schutt represents Cortland’s 1st Ward. He’s been charged with:
Driving While Intoxicated 1192-3 Misdemeanor
Driving While Intoxicated BAC >.08 1192-2 Misdemeanor
Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 511-1A Misdemeanor
Following too closely 1129-A Traffic Infraction
McCracken was charged with:

Driving While Intoxicated BAC >.08 1192-2 Misdemeanor
The two will appear in City of Cortland Court on June 9, 2025 at 9 a.m.
