CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) — A house fire in Cortland was ruled accidental.

Fire Chief Wayne Friedman says 20 firefighters were on the scene last night at a home on River Street. “The bulk of the fire was knocked down within 10 minutes of arrival,” Friedman said. “An All-hands was transmitted due to the extreme cold and potential difficulty in fighting the fire.  All fire was out within 40 minutes.”

Everyone inside got out safely. Friedman says the fire, which was reported a little before 10 p.m. last night, was “accidental involving the potential malfunctioning of the refrigerator.” The River Street home suffered significant smoke, fire, and water damage.
