CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) – A new truck is coming to the City of Cortland Fire Department.

Cortland FD has received a $1 million grant from New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) to replace an aging ladder truck. Over $27 million was awarded to support 31 projects through the Community Development Block Grant Program, which provides funds to assist low and moderate-income communities with planning projects, public infrastructure improvements, and public facility enhancements.

HCR Commissioner RutheAnne Visnauskas believes investing in modern infrastructure and thinking ahead are crucial for community health and safety.

“This $27 million will enhance critical infrastructure in these 31 communities and reflect Governor Hochul’s dedication to supporting local governments across the Empire State,” said Visnauskas in a statement. “We deeply appreciate our federal partners for providing this funding and extend our congratulations to the award recipients.”

Other notable recipients in this round of funding include $44,000 to the Village of Groton to conduct a housing conditions assessment and $50,000 to the Village of Waverly for a preliminary engineering report on water system improvements.
