LISLE, NY (CortacaToday) – State Police say the death of a Cortland County boy is consistent with an accidental drowning.

Troopers from Binghamton responded to a report of a possible drowning around 4 p.m. on Saturday. It happened near State Route 11 in the Town of Lisle.

Investigators determined that an 11-year-old from Marathon jumped into the Tioughnioga River to swim while fishing with friends. The boy did not resurface after going under due to the strong current. He was located in approximately eight feet of water at 7:15 p.m. by the Broome County Dive Team.

State Police have not released any more information but say there were no signs of foul play.
