CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) — Salt usage is up significantly in Cortland County.

So far this winter, county crews have scattered over 14,000 tons of salt. That’s about a 64 percent increase compared to the same time frame last winter.

Homer Mayor Pat Clune said village crews have been “cross-leveling amongst highway departments” to stretch out the salt supply.

Recently on Ithaca’s Morning News, Cortland Mayor Scott Steve said he hopes salt mines will “ramp up the production” for next year.
