GENEVA, NY (CortacaToday) – Cornell has enlisted some of the brightest minds to fight the spread of spotted lanternfly.
NASA is reportedly teaming up with researchers at Cornell AgriTech in Geneva to create a mapping tool to track spotted lanternfly’s movements. Officials say combining ground data with satellite capabilities could be effective in limiting the spread and eradicating the invasive species.
Last month, Spotted Lanternfly was confirmed near a commercial winery in Seneca County. Experts with the NYSDEC, NY Department of Agriculture and Markets, and Cornell’s Integrated Pest Management Program have advised killing any spotted lanternfly you encounter.
