ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — For the first time since 1977, Cornell is on top of the men’s lacrosse world.
The Big Red outscored Maryland 13-10 in the national title game. Cornell senior CJ Kirst led the way with six goals.
After the game, Kirst said hoisting the championship trophy felt “special.” He also gave credit to Cornell fans for energizing the team.
“We competed for 60 minutes because of everyone there,” Kirst said.

Cornell Head Coach Connor Buczek said his team’s effort on groundballs was “massive.” He also showed respect to Maryland’s program.
“That team year in and year out is the standard for what it means to be successful in our sport,” Buczek said of the Terrapins.
Maryland Head Coach John Tillman is a Cornell alum. He was also an assistant coach at Ithaca College from 1992-1995.
