CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) — Cortland’s Common Council is once again complete.

Tom Conlon was appointed Tuesday night to serve in the 5th Ward until the end of the year. The 30-year-old Cortland native says he’s “excited” to begin addressing challenges the Crown City faces.

“As someone who grew up in Cortland and returned home with an even greater appreciation for the community that helped to shape the person I’ve become, I’m honored to have the opportunity to serve the residents of the 5th Ward,” Conlon said. “I’m excited to get to work addressing the challenges we face as a city.”

Conlon spent several years working in the New York State Assembly, which Mayor Scott Steve noted was invaluable.

“Tom’s experience in state government and his generational perspective offer a fresh and valuable voice to the Council,” Mayor Steve said. “I’ve had the privilege of watching his family grow alongside mine, with our children attending St. Mary’s and even college together. I know firsthand the values he brings to this role.”

Seth Thompson resigned his 5th Ward seat last month. An election will be held November 4, and the winner would fill the remainder of Thompson’s term, which ends on December 31, 2027.
