ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — In April, President Trump issued an executive order seeking a full list of municipalities with sanctuary status. The Department of Homeland Security published the list on Thursday, which includes the city of Ithaca.

Monday on Ithaca’s Morning News, Mayor Robert Cantelmo reacted.

Earlier this year, Ithaca’s Common Council reaffirmed the city’s sanctuary status. Trump’s order demands that municipalities on the list, which include Tompkins County and New York State, either comply with federal guidelines or risk losing federal funding. Cantelmo calls the threat a’ scare tactic.’

City officials say federal funding is about $25 million.
