CANDOR, NY (CortacaToday) – Village of Candor Mayor Eric Halstead has resigned.

Halstead submitted his resignation on Tuesday following his Monday arrest. Halstead was charged with felonies of grand larceny and corrupting the government for allegedly stealing $23,000 in village funds for his personal use. State Police say Halstead paid $19,000 back to the village but still owes money.

Deputy Mayor Gwen Isham says the Board of Trustees voted to accept his resignation at a special meeting held on Tuesday night.  She adds the village will cooperate with law enforcement’s investigation. Halstead is set to appear in court on August 5.
