CANDOR, NY (CortacaToday) — Charges have been filed against the mayor of Candor.

State Police say Eric Halstead stole over $23,000 from the village for his own use during his years in office. Halstead has reportedly replaced about $19,000 but still owes money to the village.

The 67-year-old Halstead, who first took the oath of office in 2012, is charged with corrupting the government and grand larceny, which are both felonies. He’s scheduled to reappear in Candor Town Court early next month.

A village official had no comment to WHCU/CortacaToday, but a special meeting of the village board is scheduled for 6:30 tonight.
