ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) — Connor Buczek, the Richard M. Moran Head Coach of Men’s Lacrosse at Cornell, has been added to the U20 National Lacrosse Team coaching staff. Ryan McClay, ’03 Cornell alumnus who is an assistant coach at Fairfield Prep in Connecticut, will be joining him.
The U20 National Lacrosse Team will represent the United States next summer at the world championships in Seogwipo, South Korea. The Cornell alumni duo will work under Shawn Nadelen, currently the head coach at Towson University. Anthony Gilardi, head coach at Stony Brook and former assistant to Nadelen at Towson, is the last piece of the puzzle for Nadelen’s group of assistants.
Head coach since 2020, Buczek is a gold medalist on the 2012 U19 team, as well as a longtime team training member on the U.S. senior team. He has earned many accolades throughout his time with Cornell, including being a three-time All-American, leading his team to the NCAA Championship in 2022, and has a record of 34-14 in his first three seasons. Additionally, he won bronze in 2019 with the U.S. boxing team and was an all-star in the MLL and PLL.
One of the best players in the sport, McClay was inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2021. In the 2002 and 2010 world championships, he helped the U.S. team win gold and won all-world honors for his contributions. He was also named the tournament’s outstanding defensemen in 2002. McClay is a four-time All-American, a two-time Cornell captain, and a three-time all-star in the MLL.
A three-day tryout from June 28th to June 30th at the USA Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Maryland will kick off the 2025 U.S. Men’s U20 National Team’s on-field activities. More training camps will take place from July 18th to July 27th of 2025 as the team prepares to go to Korea.
