SPENCER, NY (607NewsNow) – An investigation is underway in the Spencer Van Etten School District.
On February 25, district officials say they became aware of a rumored potential threat of violence by a student at the Middle School around 10:30 a.m.
Administrators and the school resource officer immediately began investigating, and law enforcement agencies were contacted. The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office, which is investigating the threat as credible, determined the incident involved two middle school students and the brother of one student who is enrolled in a BOCES program but does not attend S-VE campuses.
According to the district, appropriate disciplinary action is being taken, and there is no threat to the public or the schools. Due to the involvement of minors, identifying details are not being released. However, the district will release updates if new information becomes available, including legal action.
All schools returned to normal operation on February 26, but the Middle School was closed on February 27.
