AUBURN, NY (607NewsNow) – An Auburn man will spend time behind bars.

On May 8, 31-year-old Christopher Dewitt pled guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide.

According to the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office, Dewitt admitted to being high on marijuana on January 10 when he struck and killed 67-year-old Cynthia Stockwell after failing to stop at a red light. He was originally charged with vehicular manslaughter, but the charges were upgraded after a grand jury review.

Dewitt faces a maximum sentence of 8 1/3 to 25 years in prison at his July 17 sentencing.
