AURORA, NY (607NewsNow) – A group of alumni will present its plan to purchase Wells College to the public.

On May 28, the Cleveland Commission for Wells will host a virtual public forum to discuss the potential acquisition and reopening of the Aurora campus, which closed last summer after 156 years.

The Cleveland Commission, which is actively fundraising for the effort, was one of three groups to submit a bid in March.  According to the Cleveland Commission, Co-Chairs Dr. Sara French and Caolan MacMahon will discuss plans to bring back a 4-year liberal arts college to the historic campus.

“The outlook for institutions of higher education in the U.S. is not rosy, but with realistic financial and enrollment goals, a college like Wells may survive and also thrive,” said Dr. French. “With a campus setting like Wells, making its small size a feature is crucial. Not every college student in America wants a large campus, but there are students looking for a personal experience where their leadership potential can bloom.”

The Zoom meeting starts at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Register here.

Elsewhere in Aurora, plans for projects funded by the $10 million New York State Downtown Revitalization Initiative grant award were recently shared.
